Hi, I’ve just started playing 19x19. Sometimes I get a game with a 2 stone handicap to someone just 3 ranks below me along with only 0.5 komi. How is this happening? And secondly, my rank sometimes falls after a win- why?

1 rank difference is one stone handicap. There is no komi in a handicap game, just if the result is a draw then w wins (hence the 0.5) If you don’t like handicap game you can change the settings when you propose, or chose games with no handicap.
It’s normal if you win and lose a few rating points sometimes. There are forum topics explaining why, don’t worry you will get them back just continue to play (and win).
