2025 Go Resolutions

:confetti_ball: :tada:
Happy New Year!

Do you have any Go-related resolutions for the new year?

For myself, I’d like to finally finish the “Life and Death” and “Tesuji” books by James Davies.

To visit the local Annandale club, which is only about 20 miles from where I live.

To finish my book, currently 80% complete, tentatively titled Mini Mastery: A Complete Guide to 9x9 Go.

Also to put in more than the absolute bare minimum effort (texting meetup times and locations) into managing my local Go club.

  • Read “typical mistake”
  • Re-read “essential go proverbs”
  • Replay the games in “l’usage de la force” and then read the book again.

Finishing my translation of @JethOrensin’s book into Dutch (about 90% done, but last steps are always the hardest).

Writing some articles on the history of the Dutch Go Magazine. First part is to be published in a few weeks time.

And maybe, maybe writing something on seki’s.

But you know how it usually goes with New Year’s resolutions.

Ι have to typeset the Dutch version, re-typeset the whole Russian version (since it was heavily edited/corrected by many people apparently) and finally get to at least read (hopefully manage to study) some of the Go books I have laid out in the living room, along with my Go board.

Clear the dust, place some stones.

It is a whole year, I can do it!

Ok, I hope I can do it.

Sorry to point this out but “Mini Mastery” and “Complete Guide” seem to be contradictory… Is this intentional lol

Haha, maybe so! It’s just a word swap of the previous iteration, “Mastering Minigo” or “Mini Go,” referring to the diminutive board size and not the size of the book. But the confusion could motivate a change of title. Who knows.

Play some live games.
To make it real I shoud put a number on this so I might say something like 12 this year. But then that seems a bit challenging. So maybe I should aim for 6?

Hmmm…play more games and keep learning! Also, to find more interesting people to interview on the Go world.

For 2024 I decided to go from complete beginner to EGF 1d, so now for 2025 I would like to improve to EGF 4-5d

Reaching 1d in under a year is pretty impressive, well done :+1:

I would definitely buy it. I play only 9x9 go, yet don’t improve.
