❤ PUZZLES: A tsumego a day keeps the doctor away

When I open that link I get a green “correct” square from the beginning.
If I make a mistake I get the Schroedinger puzzle :joy:

Sorry forgot to give the correct answer an enter. Should work now.
Schroedinger’s cat, I presume?
Not an enviable position for a cat

The cat is both alive and dead, the tsumego was both correct and incorrect. :slightly_smiling_face:

When I see this kind of shape in the corner, my mind suddenly goes “it’s daaaaassassd! It’s still daaaaaaad!”

Shape #4:

Looks like white did a mistake with hane at T15.

Without mistakes there wouldn’t be any go puzzles at all.

Spoiler!

This shows incorrect:

I can’t see a way for this to be incorrect, but now I wonder why Haylee did the throw-in.
This variation seems better because it doesn’t lose any stone.

White begins and is to live in the corner.

I don’t get here why W S5 doesn’t work.

With R1 or S1 Black can create an eye.
White can not play T4, because then Black captures the three White stones with S3. A White throw in at T5 or T4 is futile, because Black creates a second eye.

My question was about the previous puzzle.

I haven’t a clue why your suggested move would be wrong. Disclaimer: I am a 8 kyu.

In the puzzle program I just give in the solution that is offered in the tsumego books, where I got the puzzles from. Other moves are considered wrong by the program. In the program are (I think) possibilities to show alternative branches of moves and to comment on moves. I decided not to do so for several reasons.

These reasons are:

  • I want to stick by what is in the book. Don’t think people are interested in my additions.
  • The collection of go puzzles I am entering into the puzzles section is about 2000 puzzles. I estimate that I am about halfway. It will take me at least some more weeks, but probably a few months to finish this project (so I am not looking for extra work).

You are already doing a great job. I don’t ask for more. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m just assuming that the author has considered all possible moves, so if that isn’t right, there must be a reason… which I can’t see though.
Maybe some stronger player will help us.

Thanks, always good to be appreciated.

Sometimes I have the impression that players from days gone by are to a greater extent focused on playing elegant moves and abhor crude moves.
If you study for example Shusaku’s Invincible you see moves that nowadays aren’t played anymore, because they are now considered to be too slow, not aggressive enough, etc.
Go has evolved over time enormously.
