I think it’s difficult to replicate that speed with a 19x19 board, but if they use a different sized board it may reduce the viewers (not that Go games attract a lot of viewers in the first place)
Well, I sorta agree with that sentiment about chess. The number of reasonable moves is tiny (much smaller than Go), and it is already sorta solved in the sense that the top pros spend all their time memorizing openings rather than relying on skill to win the game. That’s not much different than a game actually being solved and then all players spend their time memorizing as much of the solution as possible.
Magnus Carlsen effectively quit chess to promote 960 due to the opening memorization issue in chess.
