I believe I first noticed it around 2/15/25, but the friends list is displaying incorrectly on the home screen. Some users are having extra buttons displayed while others are not. The buttons do not have any tooltips and I do not believe these players are online. I had to scroll down to see the active players. If I check the “show offline” checkbox then the list does grow to be longer and show inactive members but I’m not sure why there are listed people at the top. I do not recognize the screennames of the players with the buttons next to their names.
I’m actually wondering now if these are friend requests that were cleared from the notification bar that I did not see? If it is then please add something like a header or tooltips to clarify what the buttons are doing.
So now, adding someone as a friend effectively puts you on their friend list? Seems kind of backwards.
Since there are no special permissions granted to a “friend”, would it make more sense to rename “add friend” to “follow” and have that just unilaterally put them on your list without requiring acceptance?
Off the top of my head, there is a “friend” filter on the watch games screen. Also real friends can bypass chat bans. There are possibly other things too.
I agree that a note that these are requests would be handy.
I haven’t been across work in this area, but one thing the friend list gives you is the ability to see if a person in that collection of people are online - because you can filter the list by offline.
I use the experimental interface enabled, and clicking the x makes the person go away from the list, clicking the tick makes them stay.
I’ll mess around with the old interface when I have a chance.
