Im not sure how this is being scored. It says white won by +9.5 over black (white’s komi is 6.5). Please explain
It looks like you are using BadukPop, which doesn’t follow the scoring rules of Go: some of that lower left black territory is not being counted because if the players kept playing it’s not finished.
Oh looks like theres “aji” in B3! If white plays there, it it will be double-atari on 3 stones at A1/A2/B2 and also on the the 3 stones at C3/D3/C4 - so if its blacks turn, black should play a stone around that B3 area to prevent the double-atari ^^
But you you score the game like it is now, black has 13 points worth of territory (empty intersections, while white has also 13 points of territory plus 5 points worth of captured stones (the black stones at bottom-right) plus the komi of 6.5, so 24.5 points in total ^^
So i assume there has been other captures during the game if white only won by 9.5 (each captured stone is worth a point)
Yes I’m using Badukpop. I assume you’re referring to the little L shaped enclosure with the three available spaces in the lower left of the board. You say that if the player’s kept playing it’s not finished, and I don’t fully understand why that is. Wouldn’t any placement by white in that space result in capture of white no matter what? What would constitute finished? Thanks!
Yes, that L shape. One of the 3 spaces is a good move for white because it is a double atari. However, if neither player saw it and wanted to score this position, black should get 3 points there.
Does black have 12 points of territory or am I just miscounting?
Ah understood thank you
Ah indeed! You’re right, its only 12 ^^
There is no problem in a game between human players. If both agree about the territories then the double atari doesn’t matter.
With a bot it becomes problematic. No way to discuss and we can’t take the player opinion as granted because of the cheating opportunity.
So here you went to scoring an unfinished game, and the bot did recognize it, seeing that the territory marks are grayed. It’s hard to decide how to automatically count an unfinished game anyway.
For seasoned players they will be interested in the pedagogic value more as the “apply the rule” value. What matters is to learn to finish well the boundaries for the next games.
