Go stones factory (and more) 🏭

Baoshan-Yunnan (China)

Called “weiqi garden” to mark it as a different place as their shop downtown (see here). There is a big showroom but on my disappointment i didn’t meet anyone playing weiqi there. Still many interesting things to look at, including a part of the process to make stones.

Here a reference to Ba Xian, the 8 immortals

Today i discovered a third place managed by the same company.

That’s this pagoda! In the highest floors (7 and 8) there are playing rooms for tournaments.

The shop is on first floor, and a museum on second floor.

So here a new batch of pics.

Some stones recipes

The oldest sets in the museum

An old Japanese set (shell and slate)

A nice 9x9 with his tiny bowls

A humble set saved through wars

A interactive screen (didn’t try it, sorry)

Evidence that Go evolved from Othello after all?

These stones look more like some old pills as modern go stones…

You went there with a female companion, I take it?

And you’re a fan of Shinchan. Very educational series of photos, thanks.

The last small story on this exceptional day !

The thing is i reach to find someone to play

A friendly beginner but then someone came in to try to reverse a deeply lost game. He’s strong. But he couldn’t and jump out as he has something else to do.

A few mns later i am invited to join on the 4th floor.

That player is a pro 2p. Mr Wang. He’s recording a Tsumego video for beginners.
He ask me to wait for him.on first floor.

Then…

We play a 4 stones game which i lose. I am so happy, thank you master Wang!
