Is it possible to delete chat messages?

When I was capturing too many of my opponent’s stones, he typed something in spanish in the chat. The word alone already can be seen as resembling the N-word in english, depending on the context, but when coupled with a curse word that he used, I would say it can definitely be compared with a high degree of similarity. At the very least, it was a racial insult. (I don’t speak spanish, but portuguese, although what he said differs by just one letter in portuguese. The expression in particular is almost the same.).

I reported the profile for harassment and included what he said (I believe it’s a cause for banning). My question is: how can someone delete a chat message? I thought it wasn’t possible. I didn’t take a screenshot in time and a few minutes later the message was gone. You can see that something happened, because the move is highlighted, but the message itself is blank. How did he delete the message?

I think the message is just hidden when you file a report.

Maybe a moderator deleted it in response to your report, but us plebs can’t.

A moderator can delete chat messages - if you can find one on-line and PM them typically they’ll do it.

If you report someone for harassment, it automatically blocks them for you. That seems to be what has happened in this case.

You can manually unblock them (click on their name and click Block to get that menu)

Note that moderators do not routinely delete reported harassing messages after they have been reported, because it gets confusing to work out what happened coming back to it later.

Thanks, that’s it. When I unblocked his messages I could see it again and also another insult. I saw other games of him and actually he curses a lot and insults the opponents. I could see the N-word literally written, also the C-word. This person needs to be banned.

I’m sure that in due course moderation will catch up with them.

There’s sadly a lot of this sort of thing, so it’s hard to keep up: we’re working on solving that better to.

This is why we have “block”. I suggest you turn “block” back on for that person, and find nicer people to play. There are even more of those.

Indeed, from a few minutes ago (no problem spreading the account’s name… I guess?):

Yeah, in fact we don’t do naming and shaming, for the most part.

If you got that message, then does this mean the strange “active warning” dialog has gone away?

I’ll check later , but I think the weird message was already gone and the problem still exist. The message doesn’t appear anymore covering the screen, it’s gone and I still can’t play.

(Just noting we’re following up the question of “what wierd things are happening on Allan’s tablet” offline)

That’s the most confusing edit history on a chat comment :joy:

What if you uninstall and reinstall vivaldi?

What about a different browser on the tablet?

To work out what’s going on, we’d definitely need to see the browser console (as discussed), or hear from someone else with the same problem.
