Matches vs even players

would it be helpful to add a third category “loss/win against even opponent”?

the reason for this would be that “stronger” or “weaker” can be very diffuse. If one adds a category of ± one or two stones as even, the other categories would make more sense.


Had the same thought myself, just yesterday. Of course, you have to draw the line somewhere, but +/- 1.0 kyu for even seems right.



Actually I’d put it at either +/- 0.5 kyu/dan (so that the range is 1 rank) or within two standard deviations (based on uncertainty) of your rating.
