Windy cloudy day today, with nice shadows on the hills:

Those usually produce great sunsets:

Mauswilderung 2026-10-04

Caught yet another mouse in the house … and released her (him? probably her) into the wild.

Note: “Mauswilderung” (noun), resp. “mauswildern” (verb) is a German “Frankenword” (also: “Portmanteau”) that I coined from “Maus” (mouse) and “Auswilderung”/“auswildern” (releasing [back] into the wild)

You’re lucky, the ones I caught with similar traps usually died from fear before I released them

Oh… that’s very sad, poor little beings

The house I live in must have several hidden holes – in the 27 years I’ve been living here I’ve caught dozens of mice this way and none of them died in these traps (I have three of them).

Maybe I should add that this was sold as a “rat trap”, i.e. it is quite large, 12×12×30 cm long, so a mouse has quite some room to move; plus when I set it up, I add some paper at its floor so that the captured mouse won’t die of cold; plus I load it w/ more food (usually a spoonful of rolled oats with a drop of peanut butter) than necessary for luring them in so that they have enough food for the next ~6–8 hours.

I appreciate all your kindness, but the mouses I caught never wanted to eat anything after being trapped!

Lovely. I could very happily read a book there.
