I wonder, when I play a go game against an opponent who is weaker/stronger, how can I adjust the settings such that it will automatically decide some number of ‘starting stones’ on the ‘dotted’ points to have an exciting game with equal chances to win?

Change handicap from none to automatic
Does that work only for ranked games? And if I want to play a non-ranked game, how should I manually set the settings then? (I tried but could not manage to get it right for a non-ranked game unfortunately)

This is in custom games. If you accept a challenge you will have to look for games with auto.
