Someone stole my identity, please manager, talk to me urgently.
Do you mean someone else has created an account with the same name as yours but replacing the 3 with a 2? Do you still control the account with a 3?
What is his email Can he take the identities of real players This is to incriminate players while they sleep
*His email
This is someone who understands computers.
This isn’t the first time he’s done this.
Are the answers to my 2 previous questions “yes”? It doesn’t take a computer whizz to make an account with a name.
In fact OGS lets you change the name of an existing account too, a feature I do not like.
It is possible to revoke access to these people to change they use it for evil to play with AI against real players if it is not possible maybe you have to put questionnaires before changing the name of something real think about other ideas. A place to ask the person if you have another one. Instead of harassing. And also offends the artistry of that person against a site that is a regular game
I’m lucky I caught this long before there was a short tournament. Some people discover it after a while in their time zone, a few days later, by chance.. You tried to say nothing in that tournament that I’m not him.
Answering the 2 questions Uberdude asked might be helpful …
it just seems someone got the username yahel.or.2 and used the same pic (but upside down) like the user yahel.or.3
You can’t do anything about others username, even if they are similar. Your identity is not “yahel.or.3”, it’s just your username.
Anyone also could create an Uberdud3, a manapii or a richyfourtythree account without any consequences.
The only thing i don’t really like is the use of your picture, but i found nothing in the rules/guildelines that forbids this.
OGS doesn’t explicitly forbid imitiating other users, but I myself would see it as a form of harrassment.
edit: seems like the user removed the picture
@yahel.or.3 You can use the report button and raise a ticket for harassment. Then the mods can review your case and issue a verdict.
However, you should not publicly shame other users regardless. First, this exposes them back to harassment as well. Second, before you say it’s tit-for-tat, you’re assuming as a fact that they are in the wrong, and that’s not necessarily the case.
It’s not wrong to ask for help, and even say that you are being supplanted, and ask what can you do. Just, please, don’t make direct public accusations showing another user’s account.
I’m asking for help. This is a regular user. There are people here who use people’s names for evil. Believe me, if you were from this age in the morning, if you went to Shion, they would block me because he uses my name to play with AI against other players. He tried to frame me. I think I know who he is, but in order not to offend him, I didn’t say it here.
As Leira said, the correct way to ask for help is not to ask on the Forum, but to report the player like this:
I did this I know. I think to close the discussion. Let the administrators or people who are redirected talk about it in the privacy that they will fix in the pride if they have to and these cases will not repeat objects that a robot uses in my name with a rating of 25 K was not in the queue used
There is at least one player who is doing this all the time, he has also used slightly different versions of my name. Sometimes the username differences are difficult to see, for example he’ll use an ş instead of an s. I actually played against him in a recent tournament (he is relatively easy to spot by looking at his game record). I just resigned after one move and called him out, then he created another version of my username and continued winning against Dan players. Not much you can do I guess, just avoid playing against somebody who loses against 20k and wins against 5k. Just unfortunate that a few bad apples can spoil tournaments for everyone else (this guy seems to play only live games and tournaments)..
First of all, I’m sorry you experienced this.. We have to do something about this whole thing. I don’t have any ideas right now. Maybe for the duration of the current situation, let Manel know, and then keep in touch with the person who helped you.
I think the admins can always block an account that’s obviously a sandbagger, but this guy is creating new accounts every few days. He told me in a chat that he doesn’t care if his account is deactivated, he just continues with another one. Sad but true
Yes there are a small group of determined people who can bypass whatever protections we put in place and keep doing this. We know who they are, but what can you do ![]()
(This problem is a side-effect of internet privacy. We all insist on privacy, so browsers support it, which makes it pretty tricky to really block someone. The mystery is why there are people out there who want to troll a go site, of all things!? Sad but true.)
OGS could introduce some blocks on usernames being similar to existing, though could be tricky to find where to draw the line (is it really wrong for someone else to make an Uberdude3, what if I want to?) and you’d likely just end up in an arms race with the creative trolls. I do recall you couldn’t register the username vvms on KGS because it’s similar to the account of the creator wms.
I think the most optimal route is to not give them more attention than absolutely needed.
Report and move on.
A thread like this is just rewarding them for their behaviour, after all they do this for the attention
