Through the Years: Long Correspondence

This could lead to a competition in being slower. I wouldn’t recommend that… at least until it’s over!!!

I forgot to post my analysis one week ago. Here it is, together with some daily fresh data.

On Feb the 21th:

  • 195 games left, 231 players involved
  • 4 games completed
  • 6 players completed all their games
  • 2 groups completed all their games

Today:

  • 183 games left, 221 players involved
  • 12 games completed
  • 1 player resigned
  • 10 players completed all their games, one of them with 9 wins
  • 1 group completed all its games

I need to resign from the tournament, as there are too many other things that call for my attention, and thus my due moves begin to feel like chores, made unhappily.

BUT I‘d want to finish my running games, to honour my opponents, and for the actual fun I did—and still do—have in those games.

How do I have to proceed?
Will my running games end as “B/W resigned”, if I resign from the tournament?
Or will I be able to finish the running games?

If it’s the former, then I will have to resign after my last game in this first round has ended, so much is clear to me.

TIA,
Tom

If you wish to finish your games for this round, but want to withdraw, then I would recommend that you simply play out these games and only resign from the tournament after your games are finished (to avoid inadvertently resigning some games too early).

By delaying the decision, you also give yourself a chance to change your mind.

Noooo think about all the people who want to get into TTY and can’t! Maybe you can sell your spot :yum:

IMO resigning from tournament isn’t really necessary.

Your schedule is driven by the clock in your games, not by the tournament itself.
So, if something makes you feel like doing chores, it’s the games, not the tournament.
I fear that resigning from the tournament and continuing those games wouldn’t change your feelings.

If you want to honour those games, why bother about the tournament? There’s some possibility that you won’t be the slowest player, so probably next round will start some time after you finish them. You’ll be able to consider resigning when you’re done with your games.

So I think you should consider either completely resigning from your games and the tournament or just keep playing at a slow pace and see what happens.

Thanks for the heart-balm, @Lys  however, that possibility is quite improbable, I think  I’ll stay in for now and see where it goes.

Do you expect to reach the end of this tournament?

  • Yes, I am still a young player and determined to be there at the end.
  • No, I am probably too old for that and expect that my motivation will fade away one day.
  • I don’t know. Life is full of surprises. Everything is possible.
  • Never thought about it.
  • I do not participate in this tournament.

Disqualified players are still playing the tournament. Anybody knows If the second round will be starting when all games end, or if it’ll start when qualified players end their games between each other. Because there is no need to wait for the games in which two or even one disqualified player is participating to start the next round.

  • 5 disqualified players

How is that? 5 disqualified players should be because of timeouts, so there should be 5 completed games. But there are only 4. I don’t think that TD manually disqualified a player. So what happened?
