Turing tests

I was having a conversation with a couploe of friends last night about Go, since I’m using their computer to feed my habit on here - Long story short. My friend asked me if I thought it would be possible to tell a human opponent from a computer programme. I suspect that it probably would be for a player at a high enough level - maybe not so at the level I currently inhabit. What do people think?

I’d be surprised if a strong enough player would be unable to tell a bot apart from a person across the goban, but on the other hand, bots are currently being programmed to try and become stronger, not necessarily to play more like a human.

Whatever their level, bots tenuki a lot more often than people. That’s probably the most reliable way to identify them.
