Upcoming interface changes to the Game page and AI reviews

Oh I see that I can now move the action buttons to the side. That works.

I’m okay with chat on the right side. I’m just not sure what’s the purpose of having the chat so big.

Very nice that we can set it to our personal wishes, THANKS for that, @anoek!

But I’d wish that the sidebar would be at the very right side of the window, because …

And currently I can’t find a way to do that even with the many new options.

It would be really nice if that could be done :slightly_smiling_face:

If you go to settings. Try this one. https://i.imgur.com/ikJ9ohX.png

Thanks, but:

Yeah, if I move the mouse away, the sidebar folds back in again, but it all takes more action than it did before:

Click to get a score estimation.
Move the mouse away to see it.
Click again to remove the estimation.
Click again to get another estimation.
Etc., etc.

Before the changes, I could just …
Click once to get a score estimate.
Click again, get another estimate.
etc., etc.

It is a PITA now, TBH.
(And no, I’m not happy with being a “nest fouler”)

Why are you doing so many score estimates repeatedly in the first place?

If you’re on a pc and know a lil bit of coding, you can customise this to suit your taste Release v4.0.5 · SoumyaK4/OGS-Tampermonkey · GitHub

Oh this reminds me:

When having the sidebar on the side (yes I know), like this:

And you move your mouse in decent speed to the very edge where the side bar is, the bar wont slide open. Same if you move the mouse around the border of the browser. If thats an easy fix, it would be appreciated.

Hope its understandable what I mean.

That wasn’t the point “in the first place”

But [removed the unecessarily harsh part – sorry, I was p!ssed] I’ll explain: I simply like to see score different estimates instead of just one, after all it is a feature that the score estimates differ from one click to the other :slightly_smiling_face:

Peace, out.

Because he studies move by move. Is something wrong in this??

Isn’t the score estimator deliberately inaccurate?

I can’t imagine that clicking it many times to get a more accurate estimate is intended behavior / a feature.
I see it as (ab)using a glitch.

I think the estimator should have no randomness. I think it promotes strange behavior, no user should be expected to click something repeatedly for information.

If that’s the case maybe. But earlier Trohde has said that he presses it multiple times on the same move to get a more accurate estimate.

Just like you repeatedly stroke a cat on the head to make it feel loved, trodhe repeatedly calls the score estimator to make it feel loved.

Oki doki I see, in short, he is using the flaws of the primitive SE, lol. Nvm

Yes

Usually I use it in variations where I have closed holes in borders, which makes is a little bit more accurate.

I think the reason that it gives different estimations when clicking a few times is that it looks at different parts of the board, and the fact that it marks different parts as captured (etc.) seems to support this idea. @anoek and/or @GreenAsJade could probably tell us more about how it works if they want.

Well… I’ll have to live with that

I don’t believe it’s totally random; as said above, I believe it looks at different parts of the board – and never the whole board which is one (assumed) reason why it’s inaccurate.

I guess you mean like mine?

Except if it’s not quite “information” but an estimation  In which latter case I’d think that focusing on different regions of the board, and assuming different ways to play could very well lead to different estimations.

BUT can we please get back to my original point, namely that the fly-out panel from the sidebar hides the information estimation?

If anyone really feels the need to discuss the fact that I sometimes use the SE then please create a new thread.
Thanks.

Oh, I was looking forward to a debate on whether the Central Limit Theorem applies to the score estimator.

Perhaps the score estimator should not provide a single number, but mean ± standard deviation.

FWIW I used to do that too, and I noticed it gone.

It’s because sometimes the estimate is very wrong, or at least, based on a playout that doesn’t help - usually not-counting a large area that would be useful to have counted. If you clicked it again, most times the guess would change and that “huge area it didn’t count before is now counted”.

You think too much on this matter lol.

This is a very specific OGS object, his old SE which is not good we all know it but which we voted long time ago to keep it available during gameplay. Don’t ask why when things are getting romantic!

I didn’t respond after your earlier response and Trohdes request to drop the subject, so it seems like you think about it more than me

Anyway: I don’t care if you use the SE or not. I do think it’s cheating, but I accept the majority vote, that’s not my point.

The point I find important is that no feature should require multiple taps to use, aside from move navigation.

If something requires multiple taps, then instead of adjusting the UI to make tapping easier (and thereby making single-tap features harder to use), the feature itself should be adjusted to only require one tap. Trohde supported the idea of adjusting the UI by calling it a feature, while to me it looks like a glitch. The UI shouldn’t be designed around glitches.
