Why was I levelled at 10 kyu to start off? I am utterly useless and people way smarter than me are getting handicap stones against me.

You were apparently 13k in your last game in 2016: hpb0215 vs. ApolloWilliams
In the meantime, the rating system has been updated, so maybe it considered that you were 10k in the new system. Anyway you have been demoted to 14k since then, so from now on your games should be more balanced. If not, you can also open a new ābeginnerā account.

In 2016 (almost ten years ago) you played some games and when you stopped doing that your rank was 10 kyu.
When you returned in 2025 that rank was maintained.
Donāt worry. Loose some more games and you will land at your true rank.
Just a matter of time.

Play games without handicap and your rating will fall even faster.

Nothing is obvious, some play better after a long break, some less.
