I’ll add it to the next round (if no option this round gets >50%)
PS I’m hoping for a lot of contenders to make it to round 3, because this is exciting

“Be there or be square”? Do we really want a 60- or 70-year-old cliche as the title?
I’m with you, and I won’t say I’m not hoping another section overtakes it in future rounds, but I will accept the results of the poll whatever they are
PS if there is a tie for the >50% cutoff, all the options involved in that tie will advance, unless that would result in 0 eliminations, in which case we’ll randomly select which one(s) advance (minimum necessary to get >50% advancing), which can be done in a fair way which ensures it’s not rigged, it’ll just be a bit of a pain, so hopefully that doesn’t happen
The common phrase ‘be there or be square’ is believed to originate in the jazz scene in the United States in the 1950s.
Before this time, the word square was used to depict anything straightforward and measured, in contrast to the off-beat jamming sessions of jazz music, so in the 1940s, the term ‘square’ was used to refer to someone who failed to appreciate jazz music, and someone who was seen as out of touch with the trend.

If that’s true, I’m a bit surprised that you don’t like it.
is it “common” in some places? I’ve only heard it in contexts where people are trying to be intentionally cringe for comedic effect
I have no clue, my English is not the yellow from the egg.
You of all people should understand that some things get better with age!
Hopefully this doesnt happen, but in a case of, for example, 3 2 2, shouldnt we just eliminate both of the ties rather than introduce some random process?
That would break the “winner will be voted for by >50% of people in a single round” promise. But as you say, it’s not very likely
2025 is bringing the Big News already!!!
No idea why anyone hopes to be famous. Such a horrible life wouldn’t wish fame on my worst enemy
Usually fame (of that kind) comes with money and power.
And also can give people a sense that they were cherished.
Some limited power, but almost no freedom. Cherished? More like lonely. Whenever I see interviews, I don’t see many talking fondly of the experience.
I don’t know if they perceive it the same way as you or me. They’re free to do many things without repercussions, that you or me wouldn’t want to do anyway, so the freedom to do them means nothing to us.
Most of the big names could take their millions and disappear into a lavish old age, but they can’t let go. I think they know they are fooling themselves and they’re OK with that.
They often say they’re not happy, but they don’t often take the decision to leave that life behind. Sometimes it’s beyond their control, but in my humble opinion more often than not it’s a choice.
We’d get pretty annoyed if celebrities were talking about how wonderful their life is all the time (that’s why they don’t do it), but I’m sure the perks are enough to outweigh downsides. I definitely wouldn’t say it’s a “horrible” life.
Happiness is also such a weird thing, where we kind of adapt to our environment over time. Rich and powerful people might not be oodles happier than others, but I’d still choose to have some money and power if given the choice.
LOL, I’m quite sure only Germans (resp. people who know a few German idioms) will understand this
really? I assumed it meant either that they spoke a non-prestige dialect of English, or else that they were a non-native speaker entirely. I’d need to see the idiom in context a few more times to narrow down which of those it means, but I thought the general gist was pretty clear after a moment of thought
The only German I know is some messed up lyrics to songs I can’t spell or remember: Stille Nacht heileige nacht einsam schlaft, einsam waft, something something der ritter ist ruh
It seems you’re proving @trohde right
It means that his English is not something to write home about. Egg yolks being the tasty nutritious part of an egg, when something is not the egg yolk, it is pretty bad. Similar to writing home about something, I only know “das Gelbe vom Ei” in negative sentences.
I used to just eat the whites and throw away the yolk I think many people also did because of the myth.
