AlphaGo joseki (Zero and Master)

AG Zero’s ideal 3-3 pattern (which AG Master also rates highly) is identical to AG Master’s ideal small-knight, pincer, 3-3 pattern.

So it seems to me that we are saying the same thing. The two initial moves - small knight approach and pincer - don’t bring much value.

Let’s also keep in mind that AlphaGo plays those sequences very early in the game. If there was already a stone on a side (e.g. san ren sei), the evaluation would be different and, I would expect, closer to dwyrin’s assessment.

you’d better do it right away and just skip the small knight approach…

alpha did play an older joseki in that game review by hajin so i would think that many older joseki are still valid even if it just forcing
