Amending the Anti-Stalling Feature

Tournaments are fair, no control. Automatch you can set rank restrictions, even in custom games. Then the ladder you can half choose, when you challenge you choose, but when the opponent challenges not really (although you could cancel the game with no rating penalty only they would move to a spot above you, like a win).

I don’t think it’s generally clear over the Go board no. If you don’t know your opponent, then it’s not clear what weak points they have, until you try something and see if they mess up. Generally players don’t have access to things like katago during the game or a perfect score estimate, so they won’t be completely confident on how much they’re winning by, and how many times they can pass and still be winning. If you read other posts on the forums, you’ll also find that a number of players don’t even count the game, or count the game accurately, so they might not even know they’re behind and how much.

Unless of course you are playing against someone ten or more ranks weaker than you in an even game, where you’ve already captured a bunch of stones and even giving huge areas of territory isn’t enough for them to win.

Again then, if those are the kinds of games that bother you, maybe don’t accept as many, tweak your settings, maybe even cancel some to have it as a much smaller fraction of the games you play.

Because it sounds these aren’t all compatible with each other.

Oh thanks, I never noticed that.
However, I just noticed that custom games can only set the rank value, not the difference.
I wish it could be like auto matchmaking and set something like +3 -3 because my rank might change and I won’t be checking the settings every time.

I believe that’s not what I’m talking about.

certainly.
When I chose to pass three times, I was pretty sure I would win.
When this happens, the score gap has to be really, really big…
I’m sure anyone who does this knows that.

I believe I am one of them, haha.

Yes, that’s what I’m talking about.
This is also the situation where I usually want to pass three times.
Of course, I wouldn’t necessarily consider it pointless to capture most of the group and still continue playing.
I think I can definitely tell if the opponent really thinks he can still fight, or if he’s just wasting his time.

It’s too much trouble, when your rank changes, to take 30 seconds to change your custom settings? Seriously?

It’s not that it’s troublesome to set this up, but I don’t necessarily realize the ranking change immediately.

Maybe I might open dozens or hundreds of games again only to find that my rank has gone up or down.

I think that game still needs few moves until it can actually be counted, D14 and E7 are still open borders ^^

I feel in general that its better to have the system working only when all borders are closed and everything is settled. In that case, passing is point-losing mistake for both players, and i dont want to encourage people to pass prematurely.
