As I said, there are better, easier ways to sandbag.
Your example would be rank manipulation. People already do that in live games, and the mods will warn them for repeated escapes. That is one reason why escaping from correspondence should be restored as a reportable offense.
That is the way it’s done on Little Golem. Personally I like it (and for me it leads to actually using less vacation days). However, a direct consequence is that tournaments can be delayed significantly. While that doesn’t bother me much, a good part of the OGS correspondence playing population might be upset by it.
At the end of this game (above) , the score estimator had it as about even. Okay. When my recent opponent got such an annulment right after ~100 moves and a juncture where s/he timed out while the estimator showed me far ahead. Go figure. Seems like a poor protocol
I have been lax about keeping up in my correspondence games recently and have timed out in some games over the last month or so.
I would have preferred if all of my recent games that were annulled by this rule were instead counted as rightfully my loss and my opponents win.
It doesn’t feel like mass timeout, simply bad time management on my part - but the timeouts happening in groups of 2 or 3 or 4 means that only a single game in each group is counted.
Apologies to all my opponents, I am working on reducing my active games.
