Indeed this option can at the moment not be turned off. It is OP’s request to be able to turn it off.
My point is, that presuming this would become a possibility, what would happen in a mixed game Would it apply for the game in total (two players) or would it be something on an individual level?
I speculated about a situation that doesn’t exist, but may become reality if OP’s wish is granted.
My view on this is that the server decision interruption (99,9 or 100,0 % certain that a player is going to lose this game, never less I think) is a good thing. It saves us from playing on in a situation where the outcome is already certain for some time. Let’s not waste time.
Yes, people do max out their byo-yomi time on every move as a stalling tactic. I have seen several examples of this. Just in the past few months, in a 30-second byo-yomi, a player who was losing by a large amount began to do that even when the moves were forced, and then continued to do that with useless moves (i.e., stalling). The string was 50 consecutive moves.
I still agree with this, even though you (and I) forgot about the request to have this as an option.
The player who passes doesn’t have to end the game, right? And the other player is maybe stalling. So it should be on for them. IMO the only good reason to have it turned off is “I don’t want it to show up, because I’m not clicking it anyway”. But that doesn’t seem like an important feature to me.
(I would be in favor of only being able to force the end of the game, once all dame are filled. Which would be the consequence of the suggested chinese-half-point change, if I’m understanding it right.)
so u can use it. I would prefer never having to see it again. What if its a teaching game, what if there is a possibility the opponent will make a mistake?
This is not about stalling. This is about the AI forcing its uninvited self into the game and making the call. Maybe win or lose I want to decide for myself.
If I want to play a computer I will, I am playing a person, I want to have us decide when it is over without the super ref.
But the messaging of the button could be improved (if it hasn’t already since I last checked it) as we had some reports in the forums of people who clicked it without understanding it properly, and were then puzzled when the game ended. I’ve previously suggested there should not be a single button to accept the AI decision, but also a “Dismiss and keep playing” because on computers if a dialog/message pops up with a single button people can think clicking it is the only choice: “Computer says blah blah”, click “Ok” button to make message go away instinct.
I think it would be better if it was like on Fox or IGS when you can force a server decision after two passes, so you do not have to waste days or even weeks in correspondence games where the opponent are stalling but in such a way that the win rate changes after two passes so you cannot force a server decision on OGS.
My intuition would be to increase it, not decrease it, but in theory, if the system is 100% perfect at preventing premature passes, 2 passes might be workable. It’s a discussion we could have if we first fix the feature to require a pass to lose less than 0.49 points area scoring in order to trigger. But we need to fix that first, because as it is, reducing the required number of moves will only exacerbate the problem
I think it is meaningless to strive for perfection. All system will have faults, so there is always a trade-off. I think as it is the bar is too strict forcing you to waste days or weeks on games that should have ended a long time ago. As it is your only option is to resign despite the fact that you are winning, or you will be stuck in an end-game/stalling purgatory for an eternity.
This may be true for live games. But I completely disagree when it comes to correspondence games, and your opponent can take more than a day to make a move but still insists on making meaningless moves that are only a rude waste of time.
Honestly I do not see why one should waste time to fill dame etc. in a correspondence game. When it is a live game sure, but I find it a complete waste of time to fill dame in correspondence games especially when someone plays slow and doesn’t even make a move every day.
You don’t have to if both players fill teire and then each pass. The antistalling feature is just a backup if someone fills all dame and teire, but then continues to play
