Custom CSS profile pages

I’m not a fan of it either. Like I said, this is still OGS and not their personal website. They can customise whatever they want to see for themselves, but I don’t think they should affect what others see since we are all on the same website.

For now, what’s stopping me from complaining more is that at least they don’t affect my page and the games that I play. At least I don’t see it if I don’t visit their profiles and groups. They just added one more reason for me to dislike, that’s all.

Well firstly please maybe avoid calling anoek for things that are not urgent (like a server breaking down).

A profile can be a bit more personal using css tools, it’s kind of possible customization given for each of us, under your own choices. I don’t see so much harm to others in this. Till now we didn’t have much complains from moderators having to bring some help to rectify things which went wrong. If any that doesn’t seem to be like consequences of an epidemic.

You are entitled of your own opinion of course. To me there is nothing to worry that much.

If you think it’s a problem, I would be happy to fix the issue!

You cannot unless you are on the OGS dev team. It is not your issue. It is an OGS issue.

I thought you were talking about my CSS profile? I made the coding, so maybe I can fix it.

I have no doubt that you can fix your CSS.

I’m talking about ability to override UI style in general. There is should be no such thing.

My opinion is that all profiles should look the same. No personal customization at all. It is just my opinion. I do not believe anyone buy it. Most people here have different opinions. So it is impossible for me to use this as an argument for forbidding CSS. But it is the true reason. I think it will make OGS user experience better.

The ability to use CSS in profiles causes other issues too. I’m trying to sell this as an argument. It is also a good reason for forbidding CSS.

Some websites for example allow you to modify css but only for yourself.

That would get around the issue of it being obstructive to others.

Sure but I’m not sure at all that’s what css modifiers are looking for.

Maybe a solution would be a toggle in each users settings where they can opt out of seeing others’ CSS profiles? That way those who want to customise their profiles can, and those who don’t want to see it don’t have to.

ZOMG, that made me dizzy and nauseous, and I almost puked

I think this is the best solution to reach a consensus. And it is easy to implement. Everyone can be happy.

I’m interested to hear arguments against it but only from those who uses own styles.

One thing I have learned here is that no-one who does not actively code for OGS should ever say that anything is “easy to implement”

As long as nobody asks me to do any development work, I’m happy to solve all our problems with an endless stream of new feature suggestions

Completely agree.

My statement was not accurate enough. Please forgive me for my English. I mean relatively easy.

Or should I ask for a feature of sanitizing user CSS in such way that it doesn’t interfere with UI in wrong way?

Problem is, people are disagreeing about what is “wrong way” :man_shrugging:

One quite negative thing I can imagine is someone getting an epileptic seizure after visiting a profile that has some some flashing lights … that would definitely be “wrong”, I guess, with nobody disagreeing.

I don’t think so. It is very easy to define this term properly. Everything that violates TOS is wrong.

Is there any clear statement about it in TOS?

Or maybe they can use their profile to insert some subliminal cues that will trigger you to play wrongly? It’s quite common to visit your opponent’s profile while playing.

Do you really believe it? Are you talking about intentional action?

Let assume that is is possible.

How is it related to CSS? Why not to trigger verbally? Why not in game chat?

Without dropping assumption about possibility let try to estimate probability. Do you really think that person with such abilities would do this?

And I don’t even know if it’s possible to do this unintentionally by accident. I think triggering an epileptic seizure is more probable.

I think they were just joking
