Since it’s been about 24 days since the last reply, I’ve gone ahead and added this as an issue on the OGS GitHub.
@GreenAsJade In your earlier response, you mentioned being open to supporting this change if a clear and sensible design could be proposed. I wanted to follow up, as my suggestion hasn’t received direct feedback yet, even though other ideas in the thread have been discussed. If there are any concerns or complications with what I’ve proposed, I’d really appreciate hearing about them so I can continue refining or exploring alternative UI solutions.
The status of this in my mind is “I’ll do something about this when I have a chance - we have enough input to come up with something, but it will still need some thought”.
“When I have a chance” is a open-ended prospect, but it’s a big step up from “seems like a good idea, it’s in the list”.
It’s open ended because I’m neck deep in other things most of the time
Ease of implementation (lack of having to think too much) and (regrettablyt) squeaky wheels both do contribute to “when I have a chance”.
FYI If you submit a design that is implemented, the same bonus applies as coders who submit code that is accepted: free OGS AI game reviews for some time.
A “design” in this context would be mockups that were used to mark implementation a no-brainer.
It might help to summarise what requirement from the discussion above are incorporated into the proposal and which have been “compromised” or “deliberately not included”.
If my own requirement “I want to be able to choose only weaker or stronger opponents” is included, that obviously helps me be enthused
I hope you won’t take this reply as “stalling” or “make-work”. This reply is genuinely intended to share the real things that make proposals pop to the top, and to facilitate this one doing that.
( note - I’m just one dude coding. Someone else may have different views, or leap in and do it, etc. I’m just sharing how it works for me. And … anoek always has the last say. It’s happened before, and will happen again, where we all agree on something code it, and anoek says “you know what… nah!” )
