You are not obligated to talk to anyone in the chat. And no one is obligated or expected to talk to you in the chat. It may be nice to say something like “Hi there, have a great game!”, but, it is not an expected part of playing go online. Everyone has the right to not respond to anything you say in the chat. And you have that same power too.
