I think this is an interesting way of looking at it. I wouldn’t have thought of using this for cheating at all if you hadn’t mentioned it.
A few years ago I had built something similar to this to solve a similar problem: I wanted a way to play games on my board and have them translated to play online. I was going to post a link into the thread until I read through.
That code is less sophisticated than this, but waaay more dangerous than this from a cheating POV. Since it copies board state it could theoretically be used to automatically have an AI input moves back and forth into OGS. That being said… the entire OGS API is open so anyone who’s sufficiently motivated would be able to do this more directly.
I also don’t have a good fix. I like that I have open source code to copy board state (not that as far as I know anyone has used it). I like that the OGS API is open and easy to use. The good that can come from these things seems to outweigh the bad of cheating, but I’m probably only saying that because of not having to deal with cheaters all the time.

I agree that such a tool has good use. But it has been discussed in this thread that the tool can also be used for cheating.
As always, a tool can be used for good and bad. On OGS it is weighing more towards not developing tools like this. I don’t decide this, but I’m telling you wat has been discussed until now.
It is customary to post in English on these forums and I ask you to do so. You can use translators, that is fine.

That ship sailed a long time ago. If someone wants to cheat online, that has been possible for years. You don’t need a special tool for it, just duplicate the moves in whatever AI program you choose to use.
If you try that, you will discover that we spend a lot of effort detecting and weeding out AI cheating here at OGS.
So please don’t.

I mean, it sounds like an interesting problem, but ultimately futile IMO. Out of curiosity, how effective do you think your measures are? Do you have any sense of the rate of false negatives?
We do.
We are remarkably effective, largely because most people using AI are doing so casually and it’s easy to spot.
It goes without saying that we probably can’t catch determined cheaters, though we do try.

It’s somehow curious that there is a feeling of strong support for weeding out AI cheating, yet at the same time a feeling of strong support for publicising new tools that make it easier to do and harder to detect.
Just one of those “yup, that’s life” things I suppose. 
I don’t think there’s any contradiction there. People want tools to help them learn and improve and understand the game. Those same tools can be used to aid cheaters. That doesn’t necessarily mean someone in favor of those tools isn’t also opposed to cheating (even if of course some are).

I would like to chime in and give a hearty thank you for this! Playing on a physical board is new to me, and this is a huge help in confirming my counting and scoring at the end of the game.
I see a lot of weighing in above about potential uses for cheating, and while I can see where they are coming from, I just don’t get it. We see this in nearly every artistic/creative pursuit. Musical artists (G. Turra, I. Nito) posting videos of spliced playing and overdubbing, artists submitting their ‘original photography’ for the Hasselblad competition. (2026)
I do agree with the above remarks that those who wouldn’t be tempted don’t understand how someone could be tempted to cheat. I would say, however, that such a possibility does not mean that we should bemoan its existence. I found this thread by searching ‘image to go board’. I agree with OP that those looking to cheat won’t be stopped, but I’m not sure that this post and sharing of a community resource that myself and others will use solely in good faith is an egregious misstep in the community.
