Guenaïzia is an Algerian name, but Dréan is French. So I suppose he is not more Algerian than Obama is Kenyan, or Nicolas Sarkozy is Hungarian.
Well I don’t remember Sarkozy holding an Hungarian flag when he was elected
Anyway maybe Benjamin has double nationality, I didn’t think of this, but he played as french in the European pro qualifications I guess, not as a representative player of Algeria (as sidenote South Africa seems to be the only African country with some go players federation and activity)
It’s bit of debate, if someone is just born somewhere else and spend most of his youth in France. Learn to play go and made his progress within the french go community. I don’t know him personally and maybe all I say is not the case but anyway to say rightfully as you say hum. No not really imho.
Well, I do know Ben personally and suspect he would find this talk of him being an African pro pretty silly.
I enjoyed watching TelegraphGo’s review of Ben0’s game against Lukan, which sort of was the big finale, even though it was played in the penultimate round of the tournament:
That is one debate I didn’t expect would happen. I have French nationality, my grand-father was Algerian and that’s it. Regarding the flags, you will see me hold the Bretagne flag as much as you will see me hold the Algerian one, we simply love flags in the French Team. I’m pretty sure we even once brought a flag from Alsace to represent Antoine Fenech and Thomas Debarre.
Congratulations on becoming 1p @ben0
