That sounds like the dark mode problem. Can you switch your reader to light mode?
Epub is great since it’s readable on small screens.

amazing! I would love to see a hardcopy!
I’m trying to add this book to GoodReads: GoodReads - Add Book
Congratulations, Mark! It was a pleasure and honor to be involved (in my own small way) the editing and review process of this book. Excited to see it finally be made available to all! - Andrew
Maybe sth like BoD could be the way? Regards
Awesome! I would love to buy it, but i dont have a credit card… Is it possible to buy via paypal?
PDF would be great to allow the book to be printed. I can’t get EPUB to print nicely.
Gratz on your book! 9x9 is awesome and deserves more publications.
Which rulesets does the book cover?
Hi John! Thanks for your comment and for your interest in this book!
The book mainly uses Chinese rules with 7.0 komi (the standard settings for GoQuest), as explained in the Introduction. It also covers Japanese rules and gravitates toward variations that work equally well under both rule sets. I’ve used separate symbols for moves where the finer distinctions between the two rule sets can become important.
And since it’s you asking, Tromp-Taylor rules do make a couple of appearances in places that reference KataGo analysis. But overall, the book mostly sticks with Chinese and Japanese rules, as the goal isn’t so much to advance AI theory as it is to make something practical and enjoyable for human players.
This is more a SmartGo question. I know they accept cards (VISA, Mastercard, AmEX, etc.), Apple Pay, Cash App Pay, Klarna, Afterpay, Alipay, WeChat, and bank transfers. If none works for you, I’d contact SmartGo support. They may be flexible and can sort something out.
I have bought the book. I still have no time to read it yet though. XD
I am glad o know about the possible first moves though.
