Option to disable the new home screen "widgets"

I thought the same as you, until I started a couple correspondence games myself to see what all the commotion was about:

The layout and spacing looks pretty bad. Nothing is centered or aligned. The “Active games” caption is clinging to the left edge of my screen but that section’s content is floating in the middle. The “PlayQuick Match” caption has no space between Play and quick.

It’s fine without active games, but clearly this is awful.
