Is it that people prefer large teams? Or just that the large team challenges never start?

Simple statistics?
If I create a rengo for 8 players, then in 6h it will be filled and will start, and thus will be removed from the list of open challenges.
If I create a rengo for 100 players, it will hang for days or weeks in the list of open challenges before it finally fills and starts.
So, at any time there will be many more offers for rengo for 100 players than for 8.

Yes, that hypothesis is a possible explanation that has been mentioned before. The problem is we have no data to confirm it. If there is any hidden data that some techie can access, I would be interested in seeing it. In the meantime, I am in the process of compiling some data from random visits over time.
