PSA: UK users will soon be unable to access the forums or chat

If we start on the epistemology of the laws… There is more as simply “safety”
In my own view, law should be when people can’t agree between them. And still incomplete definition surely

Here is the point. There must be an agreement between jurisdictions.

But let’s get back to the topic. OGS available on the Internet. But does OGS do any other business in UK? Maybe target UK in advertisement campaigns?

CF will not shut you down for such things. Even you are drugs dealer. CF avoid intervention as much as they could. Why We Terminated Daily Stormer

CF may not shutdown sites without a court order. They most certainly will with a court order.

I was not considering UK. I think there are enough agreements between UK courts and USA courts.
I was thinking of more separate justice systems like China or NK.

I guess that the justice system is not all and that OGS may suffer in different ways if it doesn’t follow rules, not by the court but simply by the private companies used.

Valid point. I wonder if they can really proceed to fine those servers and what are the chances of success.

There is no private companies in NK. I do not believe NK has a physical link to internet too for ordinary users. In my opinion the only enforcement from NK for OGS is a missile strike.

Court order for termination of the website?
Let’s go back to the first post.

Does OGS offer any services for UK users or does not? Does OGS target ads for UK?

I don’t see why it would be so difficult to make them illegal, to block them or to fine them, whatever. I understand that there could be worries for all those smaller sites which can’t afford to control the age or to control in a preemptive way their contents.

OGS is a service that UK users can use

For foxwq, it all depends on the Chinese government I feel. For tygem, wbaduk and even Gopanda, I think they already check user IPs, and I feel they can very quickly cut off UK IPs if they want to, and they do “split up” their services to different regions, hence they might be able to claim that their “oversea” services are non-profitable or are completely separated entities. Not so sure about KGS thought.

OGS is a service that NK users can use. NK law prohibit users to access any information outside NK. Should OGS be terminated due to NK law?

Of course
Go boards, chat windows, ,..

Terminated? I’m not sure I understand your point?

Do you think it’s realistic that North Korea could really do anything legally to OGS? What about the UK? Who do you think has a greater likelihood of being able to convince payment and service providers to stop working with OGS?

If OGS is going to ban UK users by IP ranges there will no be point payment and service providers for working with OGS.

If I understood correctly OGS is afraid of big fines.

Basically yes although internet things are bit more complicated as this in China.

They’re not banning them completely. They can still play games, but some features will be blocked:

It is like playing with a bot. It doesn’t make any sense for me.

What do you think will happen if they don’t comply?

As a matter of fact and beyond suspicion, I have absolutely no idea if OGS is available in NK. Same for the other go servers.

They could at least try to appeal. I’m aware that It requires a lot’s of resources.

But limiting people in freedom without a great reason is not right. It is against my personal beliefs.

Internet is available for people in NK who got an “illegal” cellphones. Technically OGS is available. But I do not believe that lucky people with internet connection would leave any traces such as playing go. Because the penalty for internet is a death sentence.
