Request to Delete Inactive Duplicate Group

Well, I for one have changed my mind somewhere mid-thread, after realizing that the old group is simply an informal group, as they say in their info text:

we’re an informal group for all players in the houston metro area who like to meet up online as well as in person. come say hi, we love to meet new go players!

And yeah, they do link to a Facebook Group with title SW Houston Go and Social Club, while the link to the official AGA club that you, @mfb12, provided, says “Houston Go Club”, no “SW or “South-West” or something.

Oh, and even the Facebook Page that your AGA page links to is different: Houston Go Club | Houston TX

So … I for one see no conflict … at all :man_shrugging:

Maybe other moderators feel differently about this? Last instance for a decision would be @anoek, being the owner of OGS. Maybe you want to chime in, anoek?

Perhaps @mfb12 should reach out to @JohnHendrick on Facebook or IRL. He is admin of both the FB group and OGS group, and looks like he is more active on FB..

best idea so far, thanks @benjito :slightly_smiling_face:

The group is not empty, there are 27 members!

How and why should we label them as inactive and make them disappear? Under which rule?

Fundamentally no objections here for removing unused groups, especially if it’s a point of confusion for an active group, so long as due diligence is done to ensure they’re not actively using it (which it sounds like y’all are doing that so :+1:)

Have you read all comments, @anoek?

Neither are the groups related, nor are their titles (and associated FB pages).

No I haven’t, I’m cooking dinner over here, I trust y’all! My brief understanding was we have one active one and one probably-dead-one and the active one is asking for the dead one to be cleared out to avoid confusion, and you asked me to chime in about that and so I just noted that if that’s the case (and it’s confirmed the dead one is dead), I think deletion is fine.

Admins of the group could use this

to ask group members if they want to keep the group or if they’d agree to move to the other one. Once the news post is created, group members get a notification on the top right of their screen inviting them to read the message..

Renaming should be the best option.
If inactive users from the group someday login to OGS again, they should be able to see the group to find the profiles of their old friends.

I wrote a post on the old FB page “SW Houston Go and Social Club” with a link to this thread and suggestion to chime in, and as I’m not a member of that group, the Admins of that will be notified. If nobody reacts within some time, things should be clear.

That’s what I also thought first, but @mfb12 had already created a new group :man_shrugging:

I really appreciate your serious consideration of my request. I messaged all group admins on OGS and Hendricks on fb. No responses so far.

I have made contact with John Hendrick in real life and I asked him about deleting the “friends” group. He is checking with the creator of the OGS group. Additional info is pending…

Hi there. I’m one of the old members of this group. I notice I don’t have any powers to change the name even though I’m an admin.

The best I could do was message the likely founder of the group and ask for his opinion. It might be nostalgic to some of the founders or members and have old conversations, etc.

I wonder if the new group could be called “Houston Go Club” to avoid any confusion - I’m not sure how having a called “Houston Go Friends” would confuse anyone, especially since anyone who visits can immediately see there is no activity.

Further, new Houston Go members can be provided with a QR code linked to the new group called “Houston Go Club” or whatever name is appropriate or can be emailed a direct link to the correct chat group.

I’ll keep everyone posted on what I find out.

Regards,
John Hendrick

For the record, I don’t mind if the name is changed to “Old Houston Go Friends”.

And neither did “QuakerParrot” (so far).

“Duplicates” the active Houston Go Club group?

How that? I still don’t understand, and you haven’t explained it.

“Houston Go Friends” predates your new Group … and it does NOT claim being any kind of “official”.

To me, this looks like competing for the highest rock in the ape habitat :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Anyway, @John_Hendrick:

If you want that, I can do it.

But seriously, I don’t see any need to do that. (But I’d actually use capital letters, being an anal character with a history in print and pre-press :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:)

Haha, sure you can go ahead and do that. :upside_down_face:

Haha, done:

So no young friends allowed?
