“Sente - Online GO” App for Android

I see this too. It is possible that this is only for the rengo game where I am next-to-play if that helps.

Currently they are hidden from the app when we’re not on turn and not the next player to be on turn.

I think that’s a good compromise. I don’t like the idea of completely hiding them from the app. I don’t mind that not all rengo functionalities work on the app, as long as I can play my move when it’s my turn. When I use the app, I “trust” the app that I have played my move in all games where I’m on turn. If rengo games were completely hidden, I wouldn’t be able to trust the app and I would have to go to the OGS website anyway to check that I’m not on turn in a rengo.

It’s always there. The notification doesn’t disappear.

Yes, that’s a good point. My solution is to not play rengo so I’ve not really thought it through properly!

I slightly disagree, beginners always struggle understanding who’s winning. I can see your point though that we can label that better. It needs to be a single word or two, I can’t call it “what the actual score would be if both players passed now”.

An interesting aspect would be to have a big banner saying: “Game is not over yet” if the number of dame is very large.

Yeah, that needs to happen, as there might be situations in which a player passes and the other wants to invade.

Yeah, that is annoying, I will have to fix that. Thank you for the report.

God, I hate the addition of rengo. I’ll try to see what’s different about the system messages and I’ll try to figure out why the rengo games do not appear unless it’s your turn.

New version released:

  • renamed the app to “Sente - Online GO”
  • changed the label of the Auto-Score button to Estimate Score. There is also a bar under the board that tells you if you need to continue playing.
  • Added a pass button to face-to-face
  • Fixed the KO bug in analysis
  • Fixed the komi values for small boards with handicap
  • fixed various rare crashes

As usual, constructive feedback is appreciated.

Changed the thread title to match.

Edit. I see the name change for the installed app but I don’t see it changed yet on the play store.

Thanks for the heads up, I changed that.

New version coming out, this time I managed to fix the bug that some ppl reported where the AI just played against itself forever. I also added the release to Github for those who have something against Google…

Hi, thanks again for all the improvements, keep it up!!

Would it be possible to save the face to face games as .sgf files? That way, we could record live games and then feed them to AI to make a review

Regardless of how one feels about Google, they should get kudos for allowing app sideloading!

Added your release page to Obtainium :slightly_smiling_face:

Many, many kudos!

Thanks, glad you like it. Yeah, I’d like to do that, but it will take time as I don’t actually have SGF capabilities in the app. The “Export to SGF” from normal online games is actually backed by the OGS feature.

Compared to Apple, Google are open-source champions, lol

I had no idea such a thing existed, but thanks  FYI, I also tried adding it to Izzy On Droid repo, but the repo owner is being a jerk about all the google libs in the app and rejecting it.

Btw, this the effect of changing the app name 2 days ago on new users acquired from Play Store :frowning:

I recently installed the app and while it has notification permissions, I don’t get a notification when it’s my turn to move. I do get the standard email notification from OGS. I’m on a Samsung S22+, Android Version 13, One UI Version 5.1

You don’t receive them at all or do you just receive them late? Sadly, Anoek did not want to spend the time implementing push notifications support for the mobile apps and thus I must poll for them at regular intervals. In order to not use battery that much I’m polling only once every 15 minutes (or more if you’re low on battery and not on wifi!) so notifications might be slow to come.

Sorry for the delayed response - I do appear to receive them, and I think they probably come late (it’s hard to tell if they are sporadic or late without making more effort to track how long it takes them to show up or not). Based on what you’ve said, my guess is they are just late!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - great app! Thank you for making it

I have discovered a strange bug. I am playing a correspondence game with byo-yomi timing (unusual combination, I know). It also has pause at weekends. I am into my 1st byo-yomi period (24 hours) and I have played a move this weekend so it has reset to the full period. However, in the app it shows my time as zero on both the summary and the game, and it shows the last played stone of the opponent marked with a zero instead of a circle.

I’ve come across this 0 bug as well. I believe it was also weekend related. Here’s a screenshot:

Now the weekend is over but my account is set to ‘on vacation’ and the bug is still happening (I guess weekend pause and vacation pause are the same as far as this bug is concerned)

I’m playing with a newcomer on his phone with your app. (Using the phone like a real board)
I ran into buggy behaviors in 9 stones handicap games, when undoing moves.
Mostly it inverts the colors: black moves becoming white, and white, black.
Can you check this?

Hello

My opponent has a different flag on the application than on the website:

for me it appears as Israel on the website too. Perhaps he recently changed it and you need to refresh the website? Not an app bug anyway…
