Mahjong, weiqi and XQ seem to be the big ones in China. Mahjong is aesthetically appealing but it is more or less just a card game.

Cards are very very popular too, more as xiangqi I think.
Mahjong, cards and xiangqi: in all cities I went you can see players outside (and in dedicated rooms). Like dance at night, a big part of the population practice that every day.
Weiqi is far less common.

It was developed in the 19th century and mostly a gambling game. Not that old.
