The Conquest of Go – A Videogame Featuring Go Gameplay

Here are some new updates since my last post. I’ve also had the original post for this thread edited with more recent information since the game has exited Early Access and is now fully released.

The Conquest of Go is currently on sale for 25% off for the Turn Based Thursday Fest which ends on the 16th. Version 1.2 of The Conquest of Go was released this week which was focused on the features listed below. The full release notes can be found here.

  • A new analysis feature was added called Move Evaluation which displays a color (gradient from green to yellow to red) over your last move based on the change in estimated score after you and your opponent’s moves.
  • A new analysis feature was added called Candidate Moves which highlights the coordinates that the AI is evaluating as possible next moves. This works similar to the existing Move Analysis feature, but displays a certain number of moves and displays them all equally, leaving the evaluation up to the player to decide on which move they like best.
  • A new game mode called Guided Mode was added which automates the above mentioned features. As you play a match you will see your moves evaluated along the way. If you undo a move, the candidate moves will automatically be displayed, giving some options of where you may want to play. If undos are used on the same move multiple times, the number of candidate moves displayed are divided by 2 until it reaches a single move, which would be the AI’s top recommendation.
  • Several new settings were added to control the behavior of above mentioned features.
  • A new board theme was added which follows a traditional look of slate and shell stones on a wooden board and wooden background.
  • The campaign tutorial has been broken up into sections to more easily learn about specific features without needing to replay the entire tutorial.

Also, since the last post here, Version 1.1 was also released which was focused primarily on the following features. The full release notes can be found here.

  • Ability to select between KataGo Human, GNUGo, and KataGo as an ally to alternate turns with during a campaign ally match.
  • Ability to import and export custom data such as board theme and campaign stories from sources outside of the Steam Workshop, such as Nexus Mods or simply using the file system.
  • New unlimited resources option when creating a campaign to freely use abilities and other features which require campaign resources.
  • New sound effects for the non-fantasy board themes (Traditional, Traditional Dark, Toon, Simple, and Realistic).
