The section "Learn to Play Go" doesn't sync across devices

I guess it’s unseemly venting like this.

“What kind of place is OGS, where a developer takes out his irritation on the poor forumite who was just enjoying some chat”.

I get it.

Developers (and moderators) are supposed to be super-human above all that eh…

… on the other hand, if I don’t tell someone, then they don’t know, right?

Side question: Is this subsection “4 - Beginner Level 1” a relatively new addition to the Learn to go section? I don’t remember seeing it before, it’s very well done. I like the logic of how the section progresses, it could be a good alternative to Go magic’s skill tree if it advances more.

It is indeed new.

A recent contributor has been doing a ton of work, improving the content and the system

If I knew their OGS identity I’d @ them here for credi!

I’m thinking the white or black to play needs to be more prominent

It’s probably one of the single most important things when looking at the board at least when it comes to puzzles

It makes me realise also that it’s not very prominent in the puzzles section. I think we mostly leave it to the puzzle author to write “Black to play” in the description.

I think it helps to make it stand out in some way, whether it’s moving it into the title area, or giving it some special highlighting.

Like in that capture section is randomly changed from black to play to white to play.

Another convention is always to make puzzles black to play and then it doesn’t matter as much how visible it is once you’re doing puzzles in succession.

It’s maybe less important when the right answer is the same for both players, but for example

This is not in a clear spot.

I was thinking if you’re doing puzzles fast (it kind of ventures into puzzles more than learning to play), maybe having it always in the same spot like

Turn:Black, or Black to play, in that blue section, then maybe your eye might catch it changing when it’s normally constant like the headings within a section.

Normally you’ll be looking at the board and not the description I would wager.

Very bad idea, for multiple reasons.

Since you made a comment about the lessons themselves, here’s another idea: allow the player to keep placing/deleting stones after a wrong answer (and in some cases a right answer is not so obvious and requires an extra move from the opponent on the board to appear)

I’m not sure this would be a good feature at all. (Invitation to explore “by hand”)

I had something like Go Magic skill tree in mind. The board stays “open” (for you to place alternating stones and go back if necessary) after you finish the problem, either if you get the correct or wrong answer.
