It’s somewhere in the forum lol
IMO if you want to customise your own website it’s okay, but OGS is a website where many users use, so customising it and forcing other users to see what you want to see is just not right. Of course they can choose not to visit your profile or group if they don’t like it, and it’s not like they are customising your screens as well so maybe there’s no need for a strong reaction.
Thank you for spending your precious time to making your profile more accessible.
Now, where have I seen this exact CSS animations before, hmmmmm ![]()
Oh my god, what witchery is this
Aka how to fill your profile with a silly background of “Content not viewable in your region”. Perhaps hosted on imgur which recently blocked UK access.
Tell me, I look up all these animations on Google and I used Gemini to help me custom it
Still one of my favorite custom profiles:
I think this one could exists. Honestly I don’t like even this customization. But it doesn’t annoy me too much.
There was a group, planet go, which spammed players with invites. The creators also added custom css to make the “leave group” button inaccessible.
I managed to learn all of this from scattered info that I found here and there.
Thank you for the post, it’s never too late. I know most people don’t really care about how their profile looks, but having the possibility to personalize and make it your own is one of the things that sets OGS aside other serves.
I used to have an audio player the size of 2x2 pixels blasting the nyancat song on full volume hidden in my profile.
It was quite horrible :<
And apparently others also found it quite horrible :<
Maybe i should try with NGGYU next time?
No. May I suggest to remove any rich content from the profile and never use it?
But please keep your hearts in username. They suit you.
It’s akin to a philosophical question… Which do we value more?
The freedom of self-expression, knowing that it’s fairly easy to avoid/ignore those whose tastes you can’t stand? Or the requirement that we all share in a limited spoon-fed set of choices of expression?
There’s no right answer and different cultures tend to make different choices…
Much like the tension between freedom of speech and intolerable spoken words.
Both rule sets have pros and cons. Pick your poison.
Happily, the OGS profile page dilemma is pretty small potatoes. ![]()
There’s an important question buried in your good question: what is the profile page for?
It’s primary function is as a resource for you and others to learn about your activities here.
It tells others about your OGS life.
This is not actually the place for self expression, at least not in a way that obscures the primary function.
Of course, one can say that a function of the profile page is to learn about the person - and we may do that better if they personalize it.
There is a similar argument about usernames. If I set my username to “Free Palestine” this is simply free speech right? Freedom of expression.
But as with the Profile page, is the username actually a place for expressing anything?
I argue that as with the username, the profile page as a whole is not. The username is a handle we know each other by, and the profile page is the place where we learn about each other’s activities at OGS.
The profile page has a section that is about learning about the person. That’s where expression should happen. IMO.
Completely agree. Why not to enforce this?
Thanks - you’ve succinctly summarized the rule set for OGS.
While I continue to admire the OP’s creative efforts and his sharing spirit, it’s not my place to judge whether such embellishments fall outside of what’s deemed permissible by the admins running the site.
It seems what remains would be for the admin team to decide whether such bling obscures the core user profile purpose. And if so, how to address the question posed by @mikhail.trusfus re: enforcement.
Thanks again for all your efforts at making this site what it is. ![]()
If you want to express yourself, do it on the goban like all Go players do!
It looked to me that It was one people (under the name of a group). But maybe it was like a terrorist group?
Well since years OGS let players personalize their whole profile page if they wish. Some took the opportunity and IMO that never bothered me. A bit of fun when usually players don’t even say hello in their internet life. A bit of colours and animation.
I hope it’s not because of one stupid abusing case on a side, and the repetitive hatress of “you know who” against CSS that the policy will change.
Are you saying that this is disallowed for usernames?
Not that I am aware of.
But if it was up to me it would be.
