Vacation time and respecting others

Note: this is not a mod’s job, in the first instance, it is the tournament organiser’s job.

Technical difficulties

Yes, there’s always some darn thing that will need a moderator assistance. That’s why I said “in the first instance”.

I mentioned it because we do semi-regularly get reports asking for help with tournaments that do have active moderators.

I’ve decided the game and will look for the reports this afternoon

thank you for your time and help

I completely understand that the current solution is not ideal for mods and this tournament will be there for years.
So is it possible to change the tournament director for this tournament?
A tournament director can resign/annull games?

Now there’s something that we should probably be able to do, that we currently can’t.

I don’t think so, but they can disqualify participants, which drops them and stops them blocking the tournament.

Not when they are on vacation, iirc.

What I mean is, even if a player is disqualified their games must be completed for the next round to start.

That also does sound bogus

I vaguely remember a similar conversation years ago, and iirc the mod rebuttal was “these are ranked games and they have the right to play them, they are dq’d for the tournament anyway, just wait them out”.

Also, this thread needs the “time is a circle” meme :stuck_out_tongue:.

That sounds like an OK rationale for letting the game continue.

The tournament should treat it as “over” though, eh…

I agree, but how easy is it technically?

Also, what if the opponent wants to claim the win within the tournament rules and the player uses the above argument?

What if the player on vacation in the 2023 tournament says they shouldn’t lose a ranked game for using a site feature, just their spot in the tournament?

Things are complicated. :woman_shrugging:t2:

I had thought we were discussing tournaments where the organisation outlawed vacation.

So in that case it seems clear that the tournament should treat a disqualified player’s game as not active anymore.

(At the moment, everything to do with tournaments is hard because no-one has been in that code for ages . It’s “on the list” )

Yes.

But that was the argument last time, since it’s a ranked game it ranks (#sorrynotsorry) above the tournament rules to play out the game.

Ideally the game should be removed from the tournament and the next round can start (if it’s the last game). But this seems complicated.

Maybe we’re in agreement? It’s hard to keep track.

Yep, we’re in agreement :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
