When I challenge an opponent on the ladder whose ranking is lower than mine, I should get an extra challenge spot

I do wish there were more challenge credits.
But I don’t think this solves the problem:

I think it’s reasonable that you would only have extra challenge credits if your ranking is higher than the opponent you are challenging.
A more accurate statement is: “Opponents ranked lower than you should not occupy the challenge quota.

Do you mean that it becomes just a normal ranking game and no longer belongs to the ladder?
I don’t think this is necessary🤔.
Changing a game that was originally a ladder game into a non-ladder game also makes people feel bad.

In addition to inspiring people to challenge, you should also inspire people to be challenged.
It makes sense to continue playing the game to maintain your rank on the ladder.
When your rank is higher than that of the opponent being challenged, the game will not be counted in the ladder, which seems unfair to the person being challenged.

Pigeon hole principle.

It sounds like another way to phrase this proposal is to change the challenge limit from a hard limit of three active challenge games to a softer dynamic limit of three active games challenge games where the opponent is higher ranked.

Since this would kick in if the opponent drops off the ladder or if the player leapfrogs the opponent, it doesn’t seem like it is too much challenge power inflation. There also wouldn’t be extra challenges granted if the leapfrogged player hops back over the ladder player.

It sounds like the intention is to add to the challenge excitement of the ladder. The cost being a this player would be able to take up more higher rank challenge spots, but that should be weighed against the number of these extra challenges a dynamic limit would grant. Is it that many extra challenges if it only happens when people drop off or the ladder player wins and leapfrogs? The leapfrogging game win could take months to achieve and opponent dropping off is not under the control of the ladder player and could also subtract climbing power from months of play.

Sorry I don’t understand what this means.

The challenge quota should be that when you enter the ladder page or issue a ladder challenge, the system will check how many challenge quotas you have.
It should not be a temporarily stored number, but a dynamically calculated number.
If you have not entered the ladder page, there is obviously no need to calculate the challenge quota.

It was a rhetorical question to support the idea that the dynamic increase in challenges might not be excessive. And agrees with the idea that it is effectively calculated only at the time that the ladder player attempts to issue challenges.
