It’s not a usual thing at least here in China to play 9x9 (and to give high handicap on 19x19 too btw) speaking about go children’s schools, casual ama games between friends in parks or in tchalu (teahouses) or other local meeting places.
Never saw a 9x9 board even when I did visit the yunze company in Kunming. Now “Asia” was exaggerated, 9x9 may be a bit more popular in other countries around.
Although it doesn’t seem to be a so common practice there.
Is 9x9 promoted/played on Asian go servers?
And to reply to myself too, I never denied the quality of games on 9x9. I just told about a big difference in the way of learning go which concerns at least hundreds of thousands children… Please read again my post, I did intend a quick resume not starting any debate.
