Why is glicko->dan/kyu non-linear?

I’d say that intuitively it makes sense: the ladder becomes steeper the higher you rise in it. Incremental gains become harder and harder. As in all competitive endeavours based on individual skill, there is one person (or a handful) at the top, more so at very strong/expert level, a ton at intermediate/amateur level, etc.
Does this make sense to you?

I found this answer to be compelling and intuitive. This explains why the ladder is steeper as you go up. It’s because the rungs of the ladders are each a stone apart, and your opponents can do more with that one stone on each step.
