Yet Another New App: WeiqiHub

Probably shape’s weak points

Could be: that would fit with what I remember of them.

Does WeiqiHub take responsibility for the problems (“tasks ” — could that be a Germanism : Aufgaben?)? This, wqhub://t/140100023930 from [Beginners–Vital and useless stones ¹], seems a bit weird:

(1) is meant to be the right answer, but Resign seems better — or is my endgame completely wrong?

¹ Editted: I first said Direction of capture

1 is clearly better than 4-4 though

It depends. In most contexts a loss is a loss. There are other problems on small boards which look more like partial positions, but this seems to be a full game.

Does it say somewhere that it’s a full game? If not it could be a part of a 19x19 game. Hence w doesn’t win the game just from this part of the board

I have found the problems under Topics very useful, I like the division into topics and levels, and I am impressed by the range of topics available. There are a few points that I feel could be improved:

  • When you complete a series then go back to the level above, the relevant % complete is not updated.
    • The same when you go back to the top level of Topics.
  • If you do not review a mistake as soon as it happens (I sometimes click “>” too soon), it is quite cumbersome to review it at the end of the series and then return to the same topics.
  • I hope you will add some more interesting information to the statistics or elsewhere.
  • In the lists of topic, I should like to see for each topic the last level reached, as an alternative or in addition to % complete, and for each group of topics the worst level of any of those topics. This would help me zoom in on weaknesses.

The problem design is not optimal and often there is a text on 101weiqi to explain these problems.
The text is missing, which makes it a little harder.
But the category explains the goal pretty well: differentiate between vital and useless stones.
There are two ataris available and you need to decide which stones you should capture.
It’s a made up game state and the only goal is to practice the skill of determining the vital stones.

As you can see in the image, it is a full 9×9 board with visible edges.

Here’s the problem on 101weiqi: Q-77968 - Question Bank - 101WEIQI
seems like they also don’t provide any more info

Agreed, the expected answer is clear. I would just prefer a fragment or a game where the right answer does not clearly lose!

Maybe you can pretend there is reverse komi

I see that though there are 22 comments there, none of them addresses my objection (according to the translation in Firefox).

Incidentally, would you —or anyone else reading this— know what advantages the new app offers over directly using 101weiqi.com?

For me, the advantage is that it’s presented in a language I understand.

More on point, yes the quirks are a bit distracting and some of the functionality needs attention. Also it’s a bit spartan compared to many other sites. But it has its charm and appeal and is ripe for enhancement. :+1:

Well it depends, if you like to have your progress saved between platforms, the website is the way to go.

But the app offers way faster loading times, a cleaner UI, offline availability and custom themes.

(There does seem to be some English available there, perhaps not much?)

I should perhaps have said I have not seriously used 101weiqi at all, and the app only for Train–Topics in the past few days, but that quite intensively. In the first place In would like to know if site and app offer the same functions. In particular I do not know if problems on the site are organised in exactly the same way as in the app, which seems very useful. I also wonder if one lets you do more with problems or provides more information on your progress.

Another problem I have seen in the app is that it repeatedly serves very similar or perhaps identical problems in the same series.

Following up a bit more: the “Train” section of weiqihub is extremely well constructed… Specific “Topics” sections with various levels of difficulty are quite granular and well organized.

Provides an excellent way to laser focus one’s time spent learning on weaknesse, rather then shotgun spray efforts all over the map.

The other sections are also very well conceived depending on how you’d like to approach your own learning.

Am really enjoying (and benefitting from) these features a lot. :+1:t2:

Very nice app, been using it for over half a year now.

Today I encountered a bug, reproducible on both Android and Windows client 0.1.9 with the following puzzle: wqhub://t/180000023abc

There is an issue with the logic deciding which moves are legal, as stone 3 following the intended solution cannot be placed.

Btw, you might want to make a note somewhere as to the preferred place to report bugs. Is it better to create a Github issue directly?

Confirmed the bug, sending to dev rn.
Thanks for reporting
