I was first taught the game over several sessions in Coffman Memorial Union by a wonderful man who was the strongest player at the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) Go Club in 1987. I am sad that I have since forgotten his name: it would be fun to have another game with him sometime.

Since then I’ve been playing on and off with many years-long breaks. I stopped playing much again a few years after moving back to Minneapolis in 2009. During all that time I haven’t managed to connect with the local club more than once. (I had been about to make a real effort at that in 2020, but then…)

One thing I really like about OGS is how easy OGS makes it for you to study your own past games, and I’ve been doing some of that. It seems to me that, by DDK standards, my opening is pretty good and my endgame is pretty good. It’s the middle game that I need to work on the most right now.
