So a few months ago, I ran a kind of census of Australian go players. Among other things, I promised to make the data available. I apologise for the delay, but I’ve finally gotten around to properly anonymising the data, and making it available.
The findings are not especially surprising: 91.3% are men, average age is about 39.8, mean rank about 6 kyu, with about 25% being 1 dan or stronger. But there was some intriguing trends resulting from the examination of where people play and why - online is convenient, while clubs have the social and human connection.
