2025 Tsumego Champion Determination Tournament (詰碁王決定戦2025)

Last week on Dec 27, 2025, Nihonkiin held a new Tsumego Champion tournament in Tokyo and Osaka with a prize money of 300,000 yen. In the “Top class” group, there are professional and top amateurs participating (of a total 82 players). With 12 tough tsumego problems to solve under 2 hours (problems 1 to 4: 5 points each, problems 5 to 12: 10 points each. These problems are constructed by top Korean and Japanese players, like Shin Jinseo, Kim Jiseok, Kono Rin, and verified by Ichiriki Ryo). And the winners are Ueno Asami and Shibano Toramaru, both got 70 points.

I love it!! It almost looks like bunch of students taking an exam, but with commentary ^^

They also wish to expand this type of tournament to include not just Japanese players, but also Korean players next time (and if possible, Chinese players). They already cooperate with Korean players to a degree. The next step is to find sponsors I think, if they really want it to become a regular event for pros.
