Happy new year everyone. The fireworks have finally finished here, although the rain may have something to do with that.
People last year didn’t like my suggested title for the 2025 thread and ended up changing it. Will people dislike it this year? Perhaps its too dry or academic for some? Will we be able to agree on a title before everyone leaves 2025?
Here are some other titles I considered:
2026: WTF
2026: Whatever
2026: Another year closer to the heat death of the universe
In Hindsight the first of those might have been a good title for last years thread although it would probably have been opposed by the profanity sensitive or the people sensitive to allusions to the Orange Moron and his pernicious influence on the world.
And the fireworks are off again! Nearly an hour in.
That one seems to strike a nice balance between factual, funny and totally non-controversial.
Or we could finally be specific about when that greatness was located in the past?
“Make 2026 great like 1994, again” or something like that?
1994 seems great to me, as far as I can remember it… then again I was a kid at the time, so that fact probably has something to do with my positive assessment of that year.
But “pro-active review” sounds funny, so i like that a lot!
OTOH, every time I try clairvoyance and look into my crystal ball, I see … darkness – and worse, MUCH worse.
And I don’t know whether I am a visionary or whether it’s just my depression, my pessimism, and my increasing misanthropy speaking – I’d actually hope for the latter, even if not flattering for myself, because otherwise the times we live in will become even more “interesting”.
