i would have just liked this, but i felt like posting on this.
if the game is effectively decided, but the losing player wants to try their best in the yose, aren’t we still playing go?

I think that meets the “there is something to learn” test. Clearly, we are still playing Go. When I have been in this position, I have asked my opponent if they would mind playing it out.
I would repeat that I don’t play out lost games in tournaments as there is an impact on the progression. The exception is in a correspondence paced tournament where I can take the time to determine that my game is not holding things up.
