Anybody know how to solve this problem?

You can workaround this by clicking on the custom games button, then playing a custom computer game.

Iā€™m working on fixing this issue today.

I think this may have broken creating an automatch against a human: I thought Iā€™d try out the new Fischer time settings, went to the play page, selected a time button and 19x19, clicked play and got a validation error ā€œPlease select a botā€ or similar with the computer select field red and empty. But I donā€™t want to play a bot, I want a human. I selected amybot to make the validation error go away, but now when I click Play button I instantly get a game with amybot, and I canā€™t unselect the Computer select field to try to get a human again.

But the fact others havenā€™t reported this, suggests it may not be so easy to reproduce. Though I didnā€™t do anything obviously odd.

Iā€™m not sure how to reproduce it yet.

It looks like if you change the mode from Exact or Flexible to Multiple, it automatically deselects the correspondence time setting and the computer option.

That could be a way to deselect it at least, and then see if it happens again?

Interesting, so you click Human, and it doesnā€™t get highlighted? Would it be possible to open up the JavaScript console and see if there are any errors that happen when you try and select human?

Ah, I now understand what happened. It was my mistake, but I think the fact I made it and didnā€™t realise and couldnā€™t solve my problem without your text hint does reveal some poor usability:

  • I must have clicked on the Computer big button, not realizing it was a state toggle that unselected the default Human button selection.
  • So then when I clicked Play I got the red validation border and ā€˜please select a botā€™. But didnā€™t realise Human was unselected.
  • I then opened the select box of bot names, trying to find an item ā€œNoneā€ to clear the select box back to the initial ā€˜Selectā€¦ā€™ placeholder, not realising I needed to click on the outer button of the Human box (the +/-3 inner fields were fine for me, so I didnā€™t want to click them to change them).
  • A stronger colour/border distinction between the selected and unselected states of the Human and Computer buttons could have helped.

Thanks for following up. Yeah I think weā€™re going to get rid of the selection mechanism and do play human and play computer buttons instead.
