Extraordinarily cool.
Vsotvepâs tool is cool. The rest is experimentation
Iâve just realised, it makes an immense difference if we count points or if we play until a player runs out of moves. If we count points, then a territory counts as territory even if it doesnât have an Amazon inside.
Playing until a player runs out of moves definitely seems like the sensible choice to me!
Yes. Iâm just worried that the endgame might be a bit weird, if an Amazon ends up in the opponentâs territory. You can keep playing moves even if the stones you add are doomed. That is, an invasion could be âsuccessfulâ even it the invading stones die.
Yes, this just means that we need to let go of our preconceptions about what constitutes a âsuccessfulâ invasion
(note also that a chain canât die as long as it has an amazon next to it, so itâs quite possible to keep an eyeless chain alive inside the opponents âterritoryâ)
I think itâs the former - but maybe the endgame has some huge surprise in store that I donât see coming yet.
For future games, an interesting thing we could try is with Amazons counting as go stones of the same colour as the stones of that player. If an Amazon touches a chain of stones of the same colour/player, then it is connected to that chain. Amazons can remove liberties, and they can even be captured.
