Ancient Games

Hello, were can i find a database for ancient games? As an example the edo period would be interesting for me. Otherwise, not a databse but just a collection of older games. would be cool if it is in SGF and/or commentated.

And another question i have: A 9 dan player of this ancient times, how good are they compared to todays 9 dan players?

thank you

Thé websites go4go.net and ps.waltheri.net have a lot of games from the Edo era or games of players like Huang Longshi, Dosaku, Shusaku, Yasui Sanchi, Shuei, etc. which can be searched for by players or dates, if I recall correctly.

There’s also Gobase to search on, for example :

There is also a fancy Chinese edition of the complete games of Go Seigen: 吴清源围棋对局全集(全8卷)(精) (9787500917267) by 程晓流 @ BookFinder.com

SGFs: https://gogodonline.co.uk/ has excellent coverage of both Edo period and ancient Chinese games.

Books: lots from John Fairbairn (same link as GoGoD above), and Appreciating Famous Games at Sensei's Library
