I have often likened the kyu system to the golf handicap system as an easy way to describe it.

I hope one day that the Go ranking system will embrace the notion of ‘zero’ but perhaps it’s a bit rough to work your way up through the kyu ranks only to be told that you’ve made it to ‘zero’ !
